New Motti + Smith Scholarship

July 27, 2022

The International College of Management, Sydney has recently partnered with Motti + Smith Events launching a new specialised Event Management Scholarship.

As one of Australia’s leading event management companies Motti + Smith founders, Fernando Tellier Motti and Blake Smith, were drawn to giving back to ICMS. Mr Motti is an ICMS, Bachelor of Business and Event Management Alumni, and emphasises that “networking and relationships are crucial for (the) success of the business” .

The Motti + Smith Events Scholarship is awarded to a current ICMS Event Management student who displays enthusiasm and motivation for the events industry and whose aptitude, academic results and previous work experience fit with Motti + Smith Events business goals.

“We expect the intern will get enough hands-on experience and plenty of networking opportunities. We hope to inspire the intern to find their passion, and we aim to help them create a successful career path,” says Mr Motti.

Motti + Smith Events specialises in food & beverage and hospitality solutions for major festivals, venues and events. They believe creativity, planning, paying attention to detail, time management, great relationships, and networking are keys to the success of any event. Mr Motti adds “There is always a solution to a problem. If there is no solution, there is no problem”

With events like Sydney Festival and Groovin the Moo Music Festival in their repertoire, it is evident that their personal capabilities, the networks and relationships they have built are paramount to their success. Most recently, Motti + Smith Events partnered with CBRE Asia Pacific and Villa &Villa to curate the Flow & Glow city activation in the Wynyard neighbourhood. The purpose of the activation was to get Sydneysiders and tourists to return to the city.

Funded by Investment New South Wales’ CBD Revitalisation program, the Flow & Glow talks, art market, art installations and DJ booth equipped laneway party focused on collaboration and culture. The purpose of the event was to “enable people to feel happier and more fulfilled, ultimately contributing to our economic and social recovery.”

“Before starting my business, I worked as Catering & Sustainability Manager for Sydney Festival. I started working for the Sydney Festival in 2006. The first six months were a paid internship through ICMS’s Industry Training Program,” Mr Motti recounted. Reflecting on their establishment of their own business, Mr Motti and Mr Smith were motivated to start their own business by the freedom to work remotely and the possibility of working with different clients and events.

Chairperson, ICMS Scholarships, Ann Whitelock added “we are grateful and delighted about Fernando’s generous intentions with this exciting scholarship opportunity. It is unique and special to have access to such experience and mentoring and I encourage eligible students to apply for this opportunity.”.

The Motti + Smith Events scholarship is available to current Bachelor of Event Management students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 (for further requirements visit here). The scholarship recipient will gain this unique scholarship offering which entails a tuition waiver valued at up to $10,000.00, and a paid internship with Motti + Smith Events.

The Motti + Smith Events Scholarship is open for applications NOW.
