For more than 10 years, the accredited ICMS Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) has been defined by one core principle: real industry connection.
While many degrees speak about employability, ICMS has spent over a decade building it: partner by partner, placement by placement. We have a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) network that gives students direct access to some of the most influential organisations in the property sector.
Today, that network is one of the defining strengths of the degree.
At the centre of the ICMS approach is a simple idea: students should not wait until graduation to enter the industry.
Through the WIL program, students complete up to two trimesters of professional placements as part of their degree, working directly within leading property firms. These are not observational roles; they are immersive, hands-on experiences where students contribute to real projects, teams and outcomes.
Over the past decade, ICMS property students have gained experience with global industry leaders including:
These partnerships are not incidental.
They are the result of sustained collaboration between ICMS and industry, built over time, maintained through performance, and strengthened by the calibre of students entering the workforce.
The ICMS Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) is accredited by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) under the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011, with its accreditation publicly recorded on the National Register.
The degree is also recognised by the Australian Valuers Institute (AVI), providing a pathway for graduates seeking professional certification as valuers through AVI.
Importantly, professional body recognition is separate from the degree’s higher education accreditation. ICMS is not required by TEQSA or another regulator to hold separate course accreditation with a professional valuers’ body.
Graduates may also pursue certification pathways with other professional valuers’ bodies, subject to those organisations’ individual assessment and certification requirements.
For many students, WIL is more than a learning experience. It is the beginning of their career.
Students are embedded in teams across key areas such as development, valuation, asset management and investment analysis. In these environments, they build technical capability, professional confidence and, critically, industry relationships.
As graduate Sam Shiell reflects:
“The industry exposure I gained through WIL gave me a real understanding of how property decisions are made in practice, not just theory.”
Another student, Stephanie Macourt, highlights the transition into industry:
“WIL gave me the confidence to step into the industry early. I wasn’t just observing, I was contributing, and that made all the difference when applying for roles.”
For Anthony Belfiore, the experience shaped his perspective on the industry itself:
“It pushed me to think differently about property – not just as buildings and transactions, but as something that shapes communities and long-term investment decisions.”
This is where ICMS stands apart. Students graduate not as newcomers, but as emerging professionals with practical experience already behind them.
While valuation is one potential career pathway, the ICMS Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) is designed to prepare students for opportunities across the broader property sector.
Graduates work across areas including property development, commercial real estate, asset management, project management, acquisitions, research and valuation.
This breadth gives students the opportunity to explore different areas of the property industry during their studies and professional placements, building experience and industry connections that can help shape the direction they choose after graduation.
The strength of the ICMS WIL program lies not only in the calibre of its partners, but in the consistency of those relationships over time.
Many organisations continue to host ICMS students year after year, creating a cycle where:
This ongoing engagement reflects a high level of trust between ICMS and the property industry.
After more than a decade of delivery, the ICMS Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) degree has evolved into more than an academic qualification. It is a structured pathway into the industry, supported by real partnerships and proven outcomes.
Students don’t just learn about property markets, they operate within them. They don’t just study development, they see it unfold in real time. They don’t just build knowledge, they build networks that last.
As ICMS marks more than 10 years of its property degree, the role of industry partnerships has never been clearer.
They are not an extension of the course; they are central to it.
And for students, that makes all the difference.
Because in property, who you learn from matters.
Where you gain experience matters.
And how early you enter the industry can shape everything that follows.
Disclaimer: Professional placement experiences, opportunities and graduate outcomes vary between students and are not guaranteed. Employment outcomes depend on individual circumstances and broader market conditions. Students intending to pursue a career as a Property Valuer may also be required to meet separate professional accreditation and registration requirements governed by relevant industry bodies and regulators.
