Representatives from Cricket Australia, the Manly Sea Eagles and Manly Warringah District Cricket Club spoke about the business of sport at a special breakfast in November.
As the youngest attendees, future ICMS Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) students got an exclusive peek into the world of sports management right from the top.
The event was a goldmine of insights, featuring heavyweights like Mike Baird AO from Cricket Australia, Andrew Fraser from Manly Warringah District Cricket Club, and Tony Mestrov of the Manly Sea Eagles.
The future of sports broadcasting, the NRL’s exciting ventures into the United States, and the nitty-gritty of player contracts were some of the topics that were discussed.
There was also an inspiring discussion on how women’s cricket is bridging the gender pay gap.

Mike Baird didn’t hold back on career advice, stressing, “Career paths these days are not linear, so the number one advice I’d give is just go with your passion.”
He pointed out that having a passion can turn work into something you love, which is crucial in today’s sports industry.
Tony Mestrov shared his vision for more women in sports administration, saying, “If you listen, and work hard, you’re going to make it.”
His message is clear: There’s a bright future for women in sports, and it’s time to seize it.
The breakfast wasn’t just about listening; it was a fantastic opportunity to network. The future students walked away with new contacts that could open doors to internships and mentorships.
ICMS Domestic Development Coordinator (Sports Management) Kane McQuiggin summed it up perfectly: “It was a fantastic morning hearing from the panellists. Giving future students the opportunity to learn from industry professionals is invaluable.”
On behalf of ICMS, he thanked Manly Warringah District Cricket Club and its President, Andrew Fraser, for the incredible opportunity.
“Connections with sports organisations like these allow us to inspire the next generation of young professionals working and studying in the business side of sport.”
