ICMS postgraduate student Anamaria Mihaescu, from Romania, “dared to cross continents because her heart transcended geographical boundaries.”

She was awarded the ICMS Postgraduate Innovation Scholarship for new international students for her Master of Event Management degree in 2024.

“This scholarship has transformed my academic journey forever and is more than a financial aid, it has allowed me to pursue knowledge with a sense of purpose and determination,” she said.

Scholarship more than just financial help

Reflecting on the challenges she faced during her academic journey, Anamaria emphasised how the scholarship provided more than just financial aid; it became a pillar of strength and support.

“With the weight of financial burdens lifted, the scholarship has provided me with the freedom to focus on my studies, delve into the depths of my chosen field, and participate in enriching extracurricular activities that nurtured my passions.”

Anamaria is thankful for the help and support from the scholarship, saying it’s set her up for success and will help her make a difference in the world.

Networking an Added Bonus

In addition to financial assistance, Anamaria highlighted the networking opportunities offered through the scholarship program.

She said that ICMS not only equipped her with essential knowledge and skills but also connected her with employers who can recognise her potential, ultimately leading to a job in her desired field.

When asked how she felt about winning the ICMS scholarship, Anamaria described the strong emotions she felt when she heard the news.

“I remember that moment very clearly, it feels like it just happened yesterday. I couldn’t really hear everything that was said, but one word stood out: ‘Congratulations.’ It was amazing to see a dream I had worked so hard for become real.”

About The ICMS Professional Scholarships Program

The ICMS Professional Scholarship Program has awarded over $13million worth of scholarships. It is unique in its volume of giving and in its huge diversity and range of scholarships.

“Over 13 years ago, I had the privilege of creating a program with equitable methodologies, which has been described by independent auditors, Michael Tomlinson & Associates, as ‘the jewel in the Crown of civic leadership and engagement’,” ICMS Professional Scholarships chair Ann Whitelock said.

“We also received commendation for the exceptional scholarship program that supports increasing numbers of students to enroll at ICMS.”

While over 90% of scholarships are funded directly by ICMS, the program is also supported by a network of industry partners who invest funds towards tuition and accommodation, and who sit on selection committees and panel interviews during the rigorous selection process.

“Our scholarships are about embracing diversity. The range of scholarships continues to develop to meet the breadth of the diversity of students that we have at ICMS, and ensure that opportunities are available for all types of new and current students,” Whitelock said.

“It is a truly global scholarship program with recipients coming from many diverse countries and territories.

“The recipients demonstrate attributes such as high academic or extracurricular achievement and for many this scholarship award is what enables them to be here at all. We’re incredibly proud of them all.”
