Confidence and humility combined are the keys to a fulfilling career and life.

This is just part of what ICMS Master of International Business (MIB) alumna Dolzy (Diem-Thu) Le learnt alongside her academic journey at the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) where she now works full-time.

Dolzy was honoured at the March 2023 ICMS Dean’s List Ceremony for academic excellence. She delivered a speech outlining her journey from introverted and shy student to confident and capable career woman pursuing her dreams.

“My time at ICMS has been much more than just about acquiring knowledge. It has been a transformative journey, one that has helped me build and develop my career. I now feel better equipped to face the challenges that lie ahead.”

Inspired at the start of ICMS studies

“Three years ago, when I began my first semester with the MIB course, I felt overwhelmed and struggled to keep up with the coursework.

“As an introverted person, I felt like I didn’t fit in and was fearful of my surroundings. Fortunately, in the first week of study, I took the ECO600 class, and the lecturer was Ms. Karolyn Tran. She is a Vietnamese native, just like me.

“She was the image of the diligent teachers that I had studied under in high school in Vietnam. She told the class about her journey to pursue a PhD in Australia, leaving her husband and child in Vietnam, and the hardships of a non-English speaker that she had experienced to reach this point.

“She believed that hard work always pays off. I have heard that phrase many times and from many people, but this was the first time I saw evidence that touched my heart, and I believed it.

“She inspired me greatly in the early days at ICMS.”

Inspired by the ICMS Honours Board

At ICMS, classes are offered at both the Northern Beaches campus and at the City Campus in Sydney’s CBD.

Dolzy started her studies in the City Campus but chose to switch to the Northern Beaches campus in Manly, not knowing that she would be further inspired by students who had gone before her.

“Upon my arrival in Manly, I discovered a new source of inspiration.

“As I strolled down the hallway, my eyes landed on the Honour board, where the names of numerous Vietnamese students were inscribed.

“It was then that I made a promise to myself that my name would also be etched on that board someday, without a doubt. And so, with perseverance and hard work, I achieved my goal not once, but three times, earning a coveted spot on the Dean’s list and even receiving a scholarship.”

Inspired by ICMS Manager at Work

“Working at ICMS, my manager, Nadia Shevchenko, teaches me a lot.

“She is not just a manager, she’s like a guiding light in my life, both professionally and personally.

“I used to think that if you just worked hard enough, success was guaranteed.

“Working under her guidance, I have also learned that it’s all about balancing confidence with humility. Believing in yourself and what you can do, but at the same time, staying humble and open to learning from others.

“Nadia has shown me that this combination can lead to endless possibilities – ‘be confident, be humble’ – and it’s been a game-changer for me.”

ICMS Inspires, Transforms and Equips

“My time at ICMS has been much more than just about acquiring knowledge. It has been a transformative journey, one that has helped me build and develop my career. I now feel better equipped to face the challenges that lie ahead.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the lecturers who have taught me during my course.

“I would also like to extend my thanks to the entire ICMS team, the staff, administrators, and support personnel, who have worked diligently behind the scenes to help me complete my learning journey at ICMS. Their support has been unwavering, and I cannot thank them enough for their dedication and commitment.”
