William Clark

Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) alumnus, William Clarke has made a name for himself in the prestigious world of Australian investment banking, at leading firm Macquarie Group.

Clark, who resides in Manly is currently working as an analyst in Macquarie Group’s Futures Division. With a sporting background, Clark has said “I enjoy the competitive nature of my career and the networks it provides.” Macquarie Group is a global financial services organisation with Australian heritage, operating in thirty-one markets.

He chose to study a Bachelor of Sports Management at the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) as the subjects offered were of personal interest. Clark also enjoyed that ICMS provides students with a platform to network with other like-minded students, industry professionals and knowledgeable lecturers. He recalls that it was “particularly beneficial to talk to lecturers who could offer advice and insight into current industry trends.”

ICMS offers two trimesters worth of industry training as a part of all bachelor’s degrees, an experience that Clark found particularly insightful. “My industry training was more than just a job opportunity.  I worked for the Parliament of NSW as an Electorate Officer at Mike Baird’s Office. I learnt valuable time management & organisational skills.  I also engaged with diverse stakeholders including constituents, government bodies, members of Parliament and private sector businesses.”

As a well-rounded graduate, Clarke says that his “highlights would have to be the friendships and networks I developed during my studies which are still active today.” Being an international institution, ICMS has students from nations across the globe. Clarke advises school leavers and those looking into tertiary education to “study what you enjoy.  Don’t let the idea that a particular course will lead to a particular job opportunity deter you from doing what you enjoy.  If you are the right fit for an organisation, they will take the time to invest in your personal development and training.”

Moving forward, Clark plans “to continue developing my career at Macquarie Group.  I thoroughly enjoy my work and would love to eventually step into a leadership role within the organisation.”
