Accountants of the future need to have strong technical skills, while also being able to navigate quickly in an ever-changing global environment. The ICMS Master of Professional Accounting prepares you to lead and influence in this in-demand sector.

From mergers and acquisitions, tax advice, and auditing services, to financial forecasts, data analysis, corporate reporting, and changing regulatory environments, you’ll become a master of everything that’s needed to achieve success as a professional accountant. Plus, you’ll graduate with a robust understanding of evolving smart and digital technologies that can support and enhance traditional accounting operations.

These days, professional accountants are expected to look beyond the numbers. They also need to be able to support organisations in strategic decision-making and business transformation initiatives, as well as take on the roles of business consultants and leaders in the fields of finance and accounting.

The ICMS Master of Professional Accounting degree is designed to develop leaders who are truly sought after in the business world. It prepares you to apply your technical and professional skills in real workplaces in a way that you can make the biggest possible impact.

The ICMS Master of Professional Accounting offers:

  • 10 x core subjects
  • 2 x WIL Professional Placement subjects
  • 2 x elective subjects

14 subjects in total (64 credit points).

If you’d like an introduction to the Master of Professional Accounting course, you can choose to begin your studies with an ICMS Graduate Certificate of Accounting. This can be completed as a stand-alone course or as a pathway into the second trimester of a master’s degree.

The ICMS Master of Professional Accounting degree is your pathway to getting a professional-level qualification with the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA).

By completing four additional subjects – two of which can be undertaken as elective subjects in the master’s degree, while the other two are completed outside of the degree at an additional cost – you can become a full ACCA member.

ICMS has embedded the ACCA pathway into the curriculum to put you ahead of your peers studying a traditional accounting degree.

The benefits of ACCA membership include a globally recognised qualification, networking opportunities, and strong industry recognition.

ACCA membership is also a recognised pathway for direct membership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and CPA Australia.

As new technologies and trends constantly emerge, professional accountants must be innovative, flexible, adaptive and responsive to the industry needs and challenges of the future.

The nature and scope of accounting-related roles is set to evolve in the coming years – and the Master of Professional Accounting equips you to lead in this sector.

Throughout the course you’ll explore new digital technologies that can enhance traditional ways of working in the accounting field. This includes automation, machine learning, artificial intelligence and other innovations.

The Master of Professional Accounting will introduce you to smart software systems and technologies that can support you as an accounting leader. You’ll also explore global perspectives and connect with leaders in the profession.

As an ICMS Master of Professional Accounting student, you will have the opportunity to complete a professional placement in an Australian or international business. This is  included in your degree through the two Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subjects.

Professional placements are arranged for you by the dedicated ICMS WIL team. They will work closely with you to secure a position that aligns with your career aspirations. The professional placement will help you build your business networks and connections, while also providing practical work experience.

Upon successful completion of the ICMS Master of Professional Accounting, you will able to:

  • Demonstrate mastery of the theory and practice in the accounting discipline, employing relevant regulations, industry-specific professional standards and best practices.
  • Generate innovative solutions to complex business problems, exhibiting critical analysis and judgement, by applying advanced accounting knowledge, research and professional skills in a spectrum of business settings.
