ICMS is a finalist for the NRL Educator of the Year Award, setting a standard for inclusive and supportive education in Australia.
The recognition will be celebrated at the NRL School to Work Awards Night on 28 November at the Novotel Sydney Olympic Park.
ICMS Domestic Development Coordinator (Sports Management) Kane McQuiggin and ICMS School Engagement and Partnerships Executive Liam Robson will represent ICMS at the event, having played key roles in the college’s partnership with the NRL.
Their participation over the past few years highlights ICMS’ commitment to supporting the education and career development of Indigenous students.
The NRL School to Work Program, started in 2012, supports young Indigenous Australians by using the National Rugby League‘s platform.
The program offers work experience, mentoring, and leadership opportunities to help participants finish school and move into further education or employment.
This initiative aligns with ICMS’s mission to provide industry-focused education and encourage community involvement.
“I’m truly honoured to represent ICMS in their nomination for the NRL School to Work Educator of the Year Award,” Kane said.
“It’s a humbling experience, and this recognition serves as proof to the hard work and dedication ICMS put into investing in our future student’s success.
He said the award highlights the commitment that ICMS has to nurturing meaningful educational and community partnerships.
“Collaborating with Scott Foreman and the NRL School to Work program has been an incredible experience, and we look forward to continuing this valuable partnership in the future.”
Adding to the celebration, Jade Hughes, a first-year Bachelor of Business student at ICMS and recipient of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples Scholarship, has been nominated for the Student of the Year award.
“We are delighted to see one of our students nominated as Student of the Year,” Kane said.
“Jade’s accomplishments showcase the impact of the NRL School to Work program, something ICMS is extremely proud to be a part of.
“This recognition is a proud moment for both Jade and the entire ICMS community.”
