The International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) recently brought together students, families and staff to honour its highest achievers at the Dean’s List Ceremony for Trimester 3 2025 and Trimester 1 2026.
To earn a place on the Dean’s List, students must rank among the top performers in their course, achieve a minimum GPA of 4.5 out of 5.0 per trimester, and be enrolled in at least three subjects per trimester.
Professor Taha Chaiechi, Dean (Academic), opened the evening by reminding recipients of just how much their achievement represents.
“Being named on the Dean’s List is not something that happens by chance. It reflects many hours of study, commitment to your learning, careful planning, and the determination to keep going when things become challenging,” she said.
She encouraged students to take a breath before moving on to the next goal.
“We often move quickly from one goal to the next without taking the time to recognise how far we have come.”
Looking around the room, she saw the future taking shape.
“We see future managers, entrepreneurs, marketers, event professionals, hospitality leaders, technology specialists and many others who are already demonstrating what they are capable of achieving.”
Professor Cesar Sanin, Associate Dean (Information Technology), urged students to recognise the importance of their work.
“To our awardees and to every student here tonight: we need you. Industries need you. Governments need you. Society needs you.
“The decisions being made right now about how we secure our data, how we use artificial intelligence, how we make sense of the billions of data points generated every second; those decisions will shape the next 50 years of human civilisation.”
His final message was a rallying call: “The future isn’t something that happens to you. In ICMS, the future is something you build.”
Dr Nicole Hay, Associate Dean, Tourism, Hospitality and Events, spoke about a discipline where no two days look the same.
“Behind every memorable holiday, exceptional hotel stay, conference, concert, festival or sporting event is someone who has planned it, solved problems most people never even notice, and made something incredibly complex look effortless,” she said.
She praised her students for demonstrating exactly that.
“Tonight’s Dean’s List recipients have demonstrated those qualities not only through outstanding academic achievement, but through a genuine commitment to learning and striving for excellence.”
Master of International Business student Florian Amting delivered a standout student address, reflecting on how the ICMS learning environment changed his approach to study.
“I didn’t suddenly become smarter when I arrived in Australia. I simply discovered that I learn best by discussing ideas, solving real problems, presenting solutions, and working together with other people.”
His advice to fellow students was direct.
“Don’t just focus on getting good grades. Talk to your lecturers. Ask questions. Get involved. Challenge yourself. Step outside your comfort zone whenever you have the chance.”
He closed with a thought about seizing opportunity: “You never know where one decision might lead. So when your opportunity comes, don’t be afraid to take it.”
