International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) Sports Management students were addressed by industry guest speaker Margot Harley last week.
Margot is the director of Harley Consulting, a sports management, marketing and engagement consultancy, and is the former head of Consumer Business for NRL clubs Sydney Roosters, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Cronulla Sharks. Margot has also held positions with the Australian Rugby Union and Stadium Australia.
Margot shared her expertise and experience with ICMS students, who were inspired by her career trajectory and hard work ethic in the field in which they hope to forge a career.
“To attract someone of this professional magnitude for our sport management program showcases the strong relationships ICMS has built with industry professionals such as Margot, and allows our students to learn more about consumer business, digital fan engagement, sponsorship, commercial strategy and brand management within professional sporting teams,” said Ian Evans, General Manager – Sport Management.
In addition to her corporate success, Margot also undertook a Masters Research project, whilst at University of Technology Sydney, that focused on female leadership within the NRL, surveying 320 women working throughout all levels of the game. This research was pivotal in forming the NRL Women in League Committee’s strategy for female engagement.
“We are pleased to have industry experts such as Margot on campus interacting with our students,” ICMS CEO Dr Dominic Szambowski said. “This is in line with our career-focused vision and inspires our students to dream big in their chosen field.”
