Jasmyn Nankervis is breaking new ground as the first person in her family to pursue a degree, thanks to the ICMS Professional Scholarship.
Awarded at the ICMS March 2025 Scholarship Ceremony, held at the ICMS Northern Beaches Campus, the scholarship has given her the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Business (Sports Management).
“I feel honoured to have received a professional scholarship here at ICMS, as it has kickstarted my journey to my career,” she said.
Jasmyn grew up on a small property near Bathurst; student life in beachside Manly has been a big adjustment.
“Not waking up to the sound of roosters crowing, the cows mooing, and many other different forms of wildlife is so strange,” she says.
“The closest I now get to that is the bush turkeys. And trust me when I say, they are not the same thing.”
Despite the changes, she’s made the most of her move to ICMS.
She’s joined the SRC and the dance club, explored Manly, and met plenty of new friends.
“I’ve already made some good friends, found out that basketball is definitely not my sport, and made memories that I know will last me a lifetime.”
Jasmyn’s passion for motorsport stems from her upbringing in Bathurst, home to the Mount Panorama racetrack.
While she always loved sports, she admits she didn’t initially see all the possibilities in the field of sports management.
“I didn’t know that there were so many other jobs in sports management that didn’t include being an athlete, a coach, or a medical professional,” she says.
With the help of the ICMS Professional Scholarship, she’s now exploring these career options and turning her dream into reality.
The financial support has been an enormous help, but Jasmyn highlights that it’s about more than just money.
“Having the opportunity to connect with like-minded students and the people surrounding me, helping me have the confidence to keep going, I know that I have made the right choice by coming here,” she explains.
Jasmyn’s path to ICMS wasn’t rushed.
After graduating from high school in 2023, she spent a year gaining hands-on experience with motorsport teams, exploring the career opportunities in sports management.
“I spent the last year gaining work experience from many different motorsport teams and organisations, trying to hone my skills so when I finally arrived here at ICMS, I was ready to look towards my future,” she says.
Through this preparation and ICMS’ industry-focused education, she’s now building the foundation for a career she’s passionate about.
For Jasmyn, studying at ICMS is the start of an exciting chapter.
“If you asked me what I would do a few years ago, I probably wouldn’t have told you I’d be studying a sports management degree,” she admits.
Now, her experience at ICMS has confirmed her belief that this is the right path.
The ICMS Professional Scholarship has not only given Jasmyn the chance to attend college but also to dream big.
“Congratulations everyone on your scholarships, and good luck,” Jasmyn says.
“For me and for everyone else who walked through these hallways, our careers and futures start now.”
