ICMS: 30 Years of Excellence and a Vision for the Future

February 26, 2026

For three decades, the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) has led the way in industry-focused higher education. We are proud to have built a reputation as one of Australia’s leaders in graduate employment.

From our foundations in 1996, ICMS took a different approach to education. Long before employability became a sector-wide focus, ICMS designed degrees around the outcomes that matter most to students: real careers, real industry experience, and real connections.

That philosophy continues to define the ICMS experience today. We are proud to have:

In 2015, ICMS opened its second campus – the City Campus in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. This location offers students direct access to opportunities in a major global city.

Three Decades of Growth

In 2026, ICMS celebrates its 30th anniversary– a milestone that marks three decades of leadership in industry-focused higher education.

Established in 1996 on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia, ICMS was founded with a clear mission: to deliver the courses that industry was calling for and bridge the gap between academic learning and the skills required for a successful career.

Central to this is the ICMS Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program that makes internships an integral part of its degrees.

This commitment to industry-led learning has established ICMS as one of Australia’s leaders in graduate employment.

“ICMS has come so far, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together. Our journey has been challenging, inspiring, and only possible through teamwork and a shared vision,” says ICMS Founder and Chairman Darryl Courtney-O’Connor

“It’s built on decades of resilience, innovation, and an unwavering focus on student outcomes. At the heart of it all is our motto: Vision. Integrity. Purpose. These principles have guided us every step of the way.”

A Global Community Built on Industry Partnerships

ICMS’s success is reflected in its impressive figures. More than 11,000 graduates have gone on to build successful careers worldwide.

The vibrant student body represents an extraordinary cross-section of the world, with students from more than 125 nationalities since inception, creating a truly global learning environment.

This diversity enriches the ICMS community and prepares students for international careers.

Our high student referral rate highlights the satisfaction and success of ICMS graduates, who confidently recommend the institution to others.

At the core of the ICMS model is a deep-seated connection to industry.

More than 1,000 industry partners collaborate with ICMS to provide professional mentorship for every student and guarantees internships in every degree.

This industry integration delivers proven results:

In national Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) surveys, ICMS consistently beats leading public universities for skills development, teaching quality, and peer engagement.

Further, ICMS was ranked #1 in Australia for undergraduate hospitality management and for Tourism and Hospitality graduate employment.

The Next Chapter: A Vision for the Future

ICMS’s legacy, built on a unique blend of heritage, global perspective, and strong industry connections, provides a foundation for continued impact.

In 2025, we were accredited with Self-Accrediting Authority status and also founded the GZUC-ICMS United College in China.

ICMS is now preparing to apply for official University College (UC) status. This is a recognition granted to institutions that demonstrate the highest standards of academic quality and organisational strength.

Achieving UC status would not only recognise the commitment and excellence that have long defined ICMS, but open up new possibilities for ICMS’s entire community.

After three decades, ICMS stands as a springboard for tomorrow’s leaders, demonstrating a commitment to employability, excellence, and new heights in both Australian and international education.
