Starting At ICMS: international students

A USI is a unique education reference number that stays with you for life. It is a combination of 10 numbers and letters that is quick and easy to create at usi.gov.au

A USI provides an online record of any education undertaken in Australia. All domestic and international students studying at ICMS or any other higher education provider must have a USI.

Without a USI, you can’t get your qualification or your Statement of Attainment when you finish your studies.

What happens if I do not provide a USI to ICMS or ICMS cannot verify your USI with the Australian Government? 

You will not be able to graduate or receive your award (testamur), unless you are studying offshore. 

To manage your USI and consequently your graduation successfully, it is important that the personal information you submit to the USI Registry Portal is an exact match to the personal information you provide to ICMS (including your first name, middle name, last name, and date of birth). 

You can book and move into your ICMS student accommodation at any time throughout the year, subject to availability. However, if you wish to move in before a new trimester begins then you should check in on the Saturday or Sunday prior to the start of Orientation. Find out the specific move-in dates here.

Once your travel details have been confirmed, please notify us of your expected arrival date and time. This is so we can ensure our room has been prepared.

Public transport

The best and most efficient way to get from the airport to the ICMS Northern Beaches Campus is using public transport. From the airport, catch a train to Circular Quay, then take the ferry to Manly Wharf. From the wharf you can catch a public bus up the hill to the ICMS Northern Beaches Campus.

Shuttle services

There are numerous shuttle services that can take you from the airport to ICMS’s Northern Beaches Campus. These include:

Please note that these are external providers. Costs can vary – check the provider’s website for details. ICMS does not organise an airport pick-up service for students.

Taxis/Ubers

You don’t need to book a taxi – you’ll find them located outside the main entrance of both the international and domestic terminals at Sydney Airport. Taxis will accept cash, MasterCard and Visa. Tipping is not required and is done so at your own discretion. You should expect to pay toll charges on top of your fare.

Alternatively, use the Uber app on your phone to order an Uber from the airport to the ICMS campus.

If you have requested to live on campus at ICMS, you will receive an Accommodation Offer email. This will state whether your first or second preference has been successful and will include full payment details. Once we’ve received your full payment, we will send you a confirmation email.

Rooms are equipped with a desk, wardrobe, heating, and wireless internet. All linen is provided and rooms are dusted and vacuumed once a week.

Each floor is equipped with a kitchenette, common showers, toilets and ironing facilities. You will also receive residential support from the Residential Leaders who live on campus.

There is always a member of the Accommodation team available to assist students. Additionally, a Manager on Duty is present on campus 24/7.

ICMS has CCTV throughout the campus monitoring all entry points and common areas. Entrance to the building outside of class hours is only available for resident students, who need to produce their key and student ID to gain access. There is a manager on duty present 24/7 on campus.

Australia has a range of choices when it comes to managing your money. You can set up a bank account before or after you arrive in Australia. To open an account you will need your:

• electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE), which is issued by ICMS, in support of your visa application
• passport
• Letter of Offer from ICMS
• some other form of identification.

International students on a student visa are required to have health insurance for the duration of their stay in Australia. ICMS can help you arrange your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the first year of studies, then it is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate cover for the remainder of your time in Australia.

Depending on the level of cover, OSHC can contribute to doctors’ fees, specialists, ambulance, prescription medicines and emergency treatment.

If you already have current Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), a copy of your current membership is required prior to accepting your offer to study at ICMS.

Study Abroad students will only receive cover for the duration of their studies.

Note: if you are a student from Sweden, Norway, or Belgium, some exemptions to the requirement to purchase OSHC may apply.

Manly Beach and Shelly Beach are only a five to seven-minute walk from the ICMS Northern Beaches Campus. In fact, there are nine beautiful beaches within walking distance from the college!

Northern Beaches Campus

Local bus transport to other attractions on the Northern Beaches is accessible just outside of ICMS campus on Darley Road. Public and privately-operated ferry transportation to the Sydney CBD is located just a 10-minute walk from ICMS. Please ask at Reception for maps, directions and timetables.

A complimentary Shuttle Bus runs between Manly Wharf and the Campus on a continual loop. Learn more.

City Campus

The City Campus is centrally located in the Sydney CBD near multiple public transport links, including train, light rail and bus. The closest stop is Central Station or Chinatown.

Northern Beaches Campus

ICMS provides free on-site car parking. You’ll need to display a current ICMS parking permit which you can organise through Reception. Please note that spaces are limited.

City Campus

Paid parking can be found at the Market City Car Park or Goulburn Street Parking Station.

Northern Beaches Campus

ICMS has expansive grounds for various sporting activities including tennis, football, basketball and netball. There is also a pool table and ping pong table in the student common area. Learn more about sports and recreation at ICMS.

There are no sporting grounds at the City Campus; however, there are plenty of walks and gyms nearby.
