Subject Aim:

This subject will provide you with a theoretical understanding of tourism governance, policy and planning as a means to formulate the philosophical foundation, legal basis, and developmental strategy necessary for a destination to develop and flourish in the manner that best reflects its values, heritage, resources, needs, and desired image.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the need for understanding and support of the tourism industry at all governmental levels
  • Monitor, research, and evaluate tourism development through qualitative and quantitative approaches
  • Describe the roles and types of public & private sector tourism organisations in tourism policy and planning
  • Explain and critique various organisations’ use of policy instruments, implementation and the evaluation process
  • Assess the policy environment and planning strategies for Indigenous tourism and protected areas

This Subject has an individual assessment, a group presentation and a final exam. All information is in your assessment briefs on moodle.
