Subject Rationale:
In today’s data driven world, leaders who understand business analytics and its use to advance business performance will have data analytics capabilities, and be able to ask and answer the right questions to drive their organisation forward towards achieving operational goals, as well as sustainable long-term success.
The aim of this subject is to equip students with the relevant skills to identify, analyse, solve, and communicate business problems using various data analysis techniques.
Students will learn how to critically evaluate business problems – a fundamental step in the data analytics life cycle, and how to collect, evaluate, and transform data to make it suitable for further analysis. Students will learn the fundamentals of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytical techniques to turn data into actionable insights. The challenges of efficiently communicating data-driven insights to different stakeholders using verbal and visual communication will be addressed.
Learning Outcomes:
a) Examine the contribution of business analytics to solving organisational problems for various stakeholders.
b) Critically evaluate the application of different types of data within business context.
c) Select and apply appropriate business analytics techniques to generate practical solutions.
d) Formulate alternative solutions to support data driven strategic decisions.
e) Effectively communicate and present business analysis solutions to various audiences utilising appropriate visualisation techniques.
