Students studying a Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Business (Sports Management), Bachelor of Business (Entrepreneurship and Innovation), Bachelor of Business (Marketing), Bachelor of Business (International Tourism) and Bachelor of Hospitality Management will be enrolled in BUS307B in 2027. Students enrolled in all other courses at ICMS with this subject will complete BUS306A.This arrangement applies to the nested Diploma qualifications of these courses also.

Subject Rationale:

BUS306A

With the Fourth Industrial Revolution upon us, it is vital that businesses embrace the opportunities brought in by innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics. Ignoring the impact of disruptive technologies has and will continue to have disastrous consequences; threatening and invalidating existing business models.

In this subject, students will learn how disruptive innovation has created new market and value networks challenging existing industries by displacing established market-leading firms and products. The students will evaluate the impact of disruptive technology, data science and evolutionary entrepreneurial strategies on the current economy leading to social change in the 21st century.

They will also learn how digital technologies offer new opportunities for the creation of innovative business models for Intra & entrepreneurs to compete in a wide range of industries; leveraging opportunities brought in by disruptive technologies and the emerging Internet of Things.

BUS307B

As the new Industrial Revolution reshapes industries, markets, and societies, future business leaders must understand and harness the disruptive potential of emerging technologies. This subject critically examines how technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and quantum computing drive disruptive innovation, transform industries, and create societal impact.

Students will explore historical and emerging patterns of disruptive innovation, analyse ethical, governance, and sustainability considerations, and evaluate how organisations develop capabilities, processes, and strategic responses in dynamic environments.

Through case studies, foresight exercises, and applied projects, students will critically assess the strategic implications of disruptive technologies, evaluate organisational preparedness, and apply innovation frameworks to design sustainable, future-ready strategies that foster value creation and competitive advantage.

The subject cultivates critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and adaptive leadership in complex, technology-driven contexts, equipping students to identify innovation opportunities, design effective responses, and drive digital transformation as leaders, entrepreneurs, or strategic change agents.

d) Apply innovative thinking and digital tools to enhance organisational adaptability, value creation, and competitive advantage.
