In the latest Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) 2024 survey, the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) outperformed Australian public universities in key areas such as postgraduate skills development and learner engagement in management and commerce.
“The outstanding performance of ICMS in these important areas shows our ongoing dedication to offering a well-rounded educational journey that focuses on student development and engagement,” said ICMS President and Managing Director Rowan Courtney-O’Connor.
“As ICMS sets new standards in higher education, we remain dedicated to shaping the future leaders of industry.”
Public universities are institutions that receive funding and supervision from the government.
The QILT May 2024 National Graduate Outcomes Report shows that 116,250 students from 126 institutions, including Australian universities and private higher education providers, took part in QILT surveys.
ICMS has taken the lead above Australian Public Universities in Postgraduate skills development for both First and Final Year students, scoring 75.8% in the QILT 2024 survey.
This achievement demonstrates ICMS’s commitment to preparing its postgraduate students with the essential skills for career success.
ICMS also excelled in Postgraduate learner engagement, scoring 91.9% above Australian Public Universities in both First and Final Year categories according to the QILT 2024 survey.
This high level of learner engagement emphasises ICMS’s commitment to fostering an interactive and supportive learning environment for its postgraduate students.
ICMS has shown it performs better than Australian Public Universities in engaging undergraduate Business and Management students, scoring 65.9% in the QILT 2024 survey.
“These results showcases ICMS’s student-centric approach and dedication to enhancing the overall learning experience,” Courtney-O’Connor said.
“Our focus on student engagement and skill development is at the core of our educational philosophy, and this result underscores our success in this area.”
Looking at previous rankings that highlighted ICMS’s excellence in commerce and management, it’s clear that ICMS outperforms public universities in these particular areas, demonstrating its dedication to providing top-notch education in commerce and management.

When comparing ICMS as a private higher education institution with public universities in Australia, several key distinctions become evident.
It’s important to note that despite its autonomy, ICMS is regulated by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), ensuring that it maintains high standards of quality and compliance while still having the flexibility to innovate and cater to individual student requirements.
This regulatory oversight further reinforces ICMS’s commitment to excellence in education while allowing for student-centered initiatives and responsive program development.
