“When I heard I was successful in receiving the scholarship, I felt that this scholarship means the hard work has really paid off, especially from my family who has supported me from the beginning,” Devina, who is originally from Mauritius, said.

“The scholarship is not just receiving money for me; it tells me I am seen as having potential for the future of our society. I’ve got to make sure of my responsibilities to represent that society and make sure I give back to the community. When I represent something I try to represent at the fullest, so I am going to do the best I can to make everyone proud of me.”

Devina is due to complete her ICMS Master of Management (Tourism and Hospitality) in 2021. The higher education institute, located in Northern Beaches and the city of Sydney, NSW, offers a wide range of bachelors and masters (undergraduate and postgraduate degrees) and courses. Each year, ICMS partners with industry to provide a comprehensive range of scholarship opportunities for new and current students, from industry and ICMS sponsored professional scholarships to tuition fee, accommodation and financial hardship scholarships.

The Postgraduate Innovation Scholarship is a prestigious award within this highly successful ICMS Professional Scholarships Program.

“As an international student, it is beneficial to receive a merit-based scholarship not only because of the financial assistance, but also because it allows access to a network of like-minded, hard-working and dedicated peers. ICMS is a great place for collaboration and opportunity for those who seek it,” Devina said.

“The lessons which I have learnt at ICMS have been invaluable and eye-opening. The support, care and concern shown by the faculty members have not only made classes an enriching learning environment but also a place where students like me feel comfortable to share differing opinions and have stimulating discussions about them.”

Devina has ambitions to pursue a doctorate in Hospitality Management and establish a career in airlines and aviation.

“Winston Churchill once said: ‘Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.’ And while I never define my obstacles as ‘failures,’ I define my success by my repeated perseverance through adversity. I have faced several challenges over the years; yet I continued to earn exemplary grades and graduate at the top of my class, as shown by my grades. I deserved this scholarship because I have the strength and determination to achieve my goals, no matter what hurdles I have to overcome.”
