ICMS ranks 1st in Australia for hospitality, skills development: QILT

July 13, 2023

The International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) continues to be the Australian leader in Hospitality being ranked #1 in Australia for undergraduate skills development in the study areas of Tourism, Hospitality, Personal Services, Sport and Recreation according to the latest QILT survey*.

QILT are a suite of surveys for Australian higher education that covers the student experience from enrolment to employment. Over 400 000 students, graduates and employers from all 42 Australian universities and around 90 non-university higher education providers take part in the QILT survey.

The survey provides an accurate snapshot of the higher education landscape, and reveals ICMS’ placing compared to institutions offering similar qualifications.

For example, ICMS outperformed Griffith University, which ranked second, and other hospitality-focused institutions such as Torrens University, Blue Mountains International Hotel Schools, and William Angliss Institute among others. This is not the first time ICMS has ranked first in these areas.

“The purpose of ICMS is to educate students for personal success in their professional lives,” ICMS CEO Rowan Courtney-O’Connor said.

“From the very beginning when ICMS opened its doors in the 90s, and still to this day, skills development, is at the core of all ICMS degree qualifications. We partner with industry to ensure that our students develop the skills and capabilities they need to succeed in their professional lives.”

Students benefit from honing academic skills such as critical thinking and effective communication, gaining hands-on experience, and developing essential professional skills like teamwork and problem-solving.

This accolade signifies that by offering comprehensive and industry-relevant training, ICMS is effectively better than anyone in the country in preparing its students for successful careers in these industries.

Industry-focused degrees = relevant skills development

ICMS, located in Northern Beaches, Sydney, NSW, and in the city of Sydney, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

The top ranking by QILT in skills development can be attributed to ICMS’ industry training component of each degree offered, which is Work Integrated Learning, or internships, built into the curriculum.

This means students take theory into the workplace, and graduate with relevant industry experience and connections.

ICMS industry partners in the hospitality industry include leading hotels such as Hilton Hotel and Resorts, Four Seasons, Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts, Marriott, Meriton Suites, Sofitel Luxury Hotels, The Star Entertainment group among others.

Besides hospitality, the QILT survey also highlighted ICMS’ skills development excellence in the areas of tourism and sports management higher education. Undergraduate degrees offered in these areas include:

* Bachelor of Hospitality Management

* Bachelor of Business (Sports Management)

* Bachelor of Business (International Tourism)

* Bachelor of Event Management
