Enrolment into an ICMS Bachelors or Diploma course is not dependent upon participation in the ICMS “Stepping Stones” Initiative. Students wishing to partake study without participation in the initiative can do so by following the already existent entry pathways independent of ICMS “Stepping Stones”. Participation in ICMS “Stepping Stones” is independent of the ICMS Work Integrated Learning Program (WIL) and participation in the initiative is not grounds for exemption from WIL Subjects or placement.

The ICMS “Stepping Stones” initiative is intended to provide Hospitality and Tourism students with a jump start into their career by providing industry relevant micro credentials and experience, whilst reducing the financial burden of relocating to Sydney’s Northern Beaches through employment opportunities and discounted accommodation.

Interview and employment, once facilitated, is the responsibility of the employer and the student. A student’s failure to fulfill the responsibilities outlined within the student’s contract will provide grounds for termination at the employer’s discretion. Prior to the interview, the student will have the opportunity to revise their Resume and Interview Skills with the Work Integrated Learning Team (WIL) to ensure they are properly prepared for their interview.

It is advisable for employment purposes to complete the RSA and Barista Training course. Students will be notified 1 month prior to the date of RSA and Barista training. Barista training will be conducted through Dane’s Specialty Coffee Institute. It is the student’s responsibility to allocate their time to attend the dedicated session. RSA and Barista training session will not be run more than once per year. Employment cannot begin until the session has been completed and RSA/ Barista Qualification has been awarded, unless specified in writing by the employer.

Accommodation fees are based on the highest rate available of $549/week for Single Room with View. Room cost will vary but percentage bursary will remain unchanged. Subject to available accommodation and only available for the February 2024 intake. Students inside the specified 100Km radius will be ineligible for the accommodation portion of this initiative but will still be eligible for the RSA and Barista Training.
