Senior Program Manager Postgraduate

Dr James Cooper is on the Senior Academic Team at the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS). He is a Senior Program Manager Postgraduate responsible for the management and development of postgraduate business programs and is an academic with extensive experience in business management, entrepreneurship, and teaching.

Starting his career as an optician, James moved into marketing with OPSM and then into the construction industry as the managing partner to builders in Queensland before becoming an educator. He has held various positions throughout his career, including Portfolio Manager at TAFE Queensland overseeing multiple academic portfolios and Manager of Business Programs at RMIT International University in Vietnam, where he introduced three new academic business programs and managed five business and commerce academic programs.

James has consulted to business and government departments in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar. He owns a small family business providing rice, clean water, and washing facilities to small communities In Thailand, served as an Executive Director at Schauppe Corporation Binh Dinh Vietnam, and created business plans for Vinh City Peanut Processing facilities, Paperbark Holiday Resort Australia, C.A.L.M Medical Resort in Nha Trang, Dalat Hospital, Vinh City Hospital, and Song Giang Hydropower.

James’s academic and teaching experience includes his role as a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at RMIT International University in Vietnam where he has taught in a variety of entrepreneurship, management, and marketing subjects. His research interests lie in the realm of family business and leadership succession. His current research includes topics on leadership succession in Vietnamese family business as well as on skill shortages in the Vietnamese service sector.

Qualifications

James holds a PhD in Management from the RMIT University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Queensland University of Technology, and a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning from RMIT University. Additionally, he is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a graduate of their International Directors Course.

James is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management.
