The Master of International Business focuses on increasing understanding of the way in which global businesses function, the challenges they face and the complex environments in which they operate.

International organisations expect managers and leaders to demonstrate highly-developed business knowledge, as well as specialised skills in cross cultural management, international finance and strategic planning. These skills are crucial to effective decision making and the sustainable management of an organisation.

The course provides advanced, transferable, conceptual and professional skills through a program of student-centred learning and research experience in an industry setting.

Students will develop the cutting-edge professional management, communication, analytical and decision-making skills required to make valuable contributions in the international business context.

The Master of International Business is structured to provide you with the perfect balance of theoretical coursework and practical experience.

The Master of International Business consists of the following:

  • 12 x Subjects of in-depth coursework studies
  • 2 x Subjects of Work Integrated Learning, where you will work with an organisation in your industry for 600 hours and apply your knowledge to real business issues. (Students who have already  worked, or who are currently working, within their industry of study may be eligible to receive Recognition of Prior Learning for these subjects. Refer to the Policy Library for more information.)
  • Delivery through a combination of small lectures, tutorials, workshops and industry research to cater for a range of learning styles.
  • Australian and New Zealand students may wish to accelerate their course and complete in 1.3 years.
  • The full-time 2-year course duration means international students are eligible for a two-year post-study work visa.*

Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate mastery of essential management concepts, contemporary management issues and practices applicable to global business operations.
  • Critically evaluate and respond to diverse contemporary, social, economic, political, technological, legal, ethical, environmental and cultural factors impacting organisations in the constantly evolving global economy.
  • Communicate and negotiate effectively with diverse stakeholders using advanced oral and written communication skills, adeptly adjusting to varying contexts and digital channels.
  • Synthesise advanced data and information to develop evidence-based, innovative and sustainable solutions for international business challenges. 
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive grasp of ethical frameworks and principles relevant to sustainable management practices in diverse organisational contexts. 
  • Critically reflect on and evaluate practices of cross-cultural teams and their personal management and leadership styles towards sustainable organisational success. 
  • Enhance and apply research skills to address real-world industry challenges by employing appropriate methodologies, utilising advanced data analysis techniques and recognising the knowledge gaps.  
  • Synthesise and apply advanced knowledge, observation and reflective practice to enhance organisational performance in an international professional setting.

Please note: Core subjects from undergraduate business courses are available at both the Northern Beaches Campus and the City Campus. These core subjects may also be part of other undergraduate courses. If a subject is not available at your preferred campus during a particular trimester, it will be offered either online or at the other campus.

International students and online study: In accordance with the Australian Government ESOS National Code, international students on a Student Visa can only undertake 33% of their total enrolment load online. They must be enrolled in at least one on-campus subject in each compulsory study period. Learn more.
