Admission Information for Bachelor of Business (Sports Management)

Completion of NSW HSC (or equivalent) with a minimum Band 2 in English Standard or English EAL/D and a Band 2 in any one of the following suggested equivalent subjects including Mathematics Standard 2, Business Studies, Economics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Legal Studies, Financial Services or Business Services.

ICMS does not use ATAR selection ranks for admissions. Applicants are assessed on performance in individual HSC (or equivalent) subjects and prospective applicants may be contacted by ICMS to attend an interview.

Bridging and enabling course entry

If you do not meet these requirements, consider applying for a Diploma or another Pathway program. Aspire Institute offers the Australian Foundation Program for students whom have completed year 11 studies but do not satisfy the requirements for undergraduate courses.

Alternatively, prospective students who have completed four (4) non-award undergraduate subjects undertaken at Aspire Institute or a recognised tertiary institution may be considered for undergraduate courses.

At-school offer schemes are available which make it possible for a student to receive a conditional offer before sitting their final-year school exams. These include:

Interstate year 12

Australian interstate applicants will have achieved entry for ICMS Bachelor courses if they have achieved an equivalent of the NSW HSC with a minimum Band 2 in English Standard or English EAL/D and a Band 2 in any of the suggested equivalent subjects, including Mathematics Standard 2, Business Studies, Economics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Investigating Science, Legal Studies, Financial Services or Business Services.

New Zealand

Successful completion of New Zealand Year 13 with a minimum of 42 course credits at Level 3 or above.

Applicants with higher education study may apply with a completed qualification OR a minimum for four (4) completed undergraduate subjects (an equivalent of 12 ICMS credit points or equivalent.)

Completed Bridging or Enabling Courses

ICMS recognises enabling programs such as tertiary preparation programs offered by universities and other institutions for entry into undergraduate courses. Aspire Institute’s Australian Foundation Program is accepted by ICMS for students whom have completed year 11 studies but do not satisfy the requirements for undergraduate courses.

Advanced Standing / Credit Transfer / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

You may be entitled to credit for prior learning, whether formal, non-formal or informal. Formal learning can include previous study in higher education, vocational education, or adult and community education. Non-formal learning is undertaken through a structured program but does not lead to a formally recognised qualification and informal learning can include on the job learning or various kinds of work and life experience. Credit for prior learning can reduce the amount of study needed to complete a degree.

(Finished secondary education more than two years ago)

Applicants, who are over 18 years of age, may be eligible for admission based on specific work and life experience. Undergraduate applicants will need to present evidence of at least 2 years of full-time paid work experience. This evidence must be well documented and include the following:

• a CV/resume
• at least two reference letters or statements of service
• job descriptions; and
• a completed Statement of Purpose eForm

Applicants may also wish to provide evidence of formal, informal or non-formal study, completed or partially completed, which demonstrates a reasonable prospect of success in the course applied for.

However, it is not recommended that applicants rely solely on work experience; they should consider supplementing it with the Special Tertiary Admission Test (STAT).

Domestic applicants who have overseas qualifications are assessed using ICMS international requirements as found in the entry requirements by country section.

English Language Proficiency

Australian Year 12 students must submit a performance band of no less than 2 in English.

English proficiency assessments must be completed no longer than two (2) years prior to commencement. Applicants may sit an ICMS English proficiency test for purposes of entry. Available upon request.

Additional admission criteria for international students: IELTS 6 overall (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in Writing and Speaking.

Special Entry Pathway (Exceptional Circumstances)

ICMS supports participation of applicants that may have disability, illness or family disruption and are sensitive to these circumstances.

To that end ICMS welcome applications from those with challenging circumstances. Those applicants are requested to apply with any documents evidencing work experience, training, previous academic achievement or evidence that supports the applicants character. These applications will be assessed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor on a case-by-case basis.

Criteria for Admission

Applicants in any category whose study, work or life experiences have been impacted by disability, illness or family disruption will be given special consideration for admission.

Each application will be considered on its merit, based on the evidence supplied by the applicant attesting to the circumstances of the applicant. Applications must be submitted with supporting documentation for example, a medical practitioner’s report. Admission will be determined on a case by case basis by the DVC (Learning and Teaching).

Applicants with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Background

Criteria for Admission

Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants can apply with either recent secondary education, VET study and/or work and life experience pathway as described earlier in the Admissions Guidebook. Applicants must also provide “Confirmation of Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander Heritage” at the time of their application (or at their interview).
