You could be working in a five-star international hotel, an island resort, a lively city restaurant or a major tourist destination. A career in hospitality offers you both choice and security.

Developed in conjunction with industry, and featuring a comprehensive Work Integrated Learning component, the ICMS Bachelor of Hospitality Management represents the next generation in hospitality qualifications. When you graduate from this degree you will possess a valuable blend of practical skill, theory and business acumen to take you to the top of your profession.

The Bachelor of Hospitality Management offers 26 subjects in total:

  • 11 core business subjects
  • 9 specialisation subjects
  • 4 elective subjects
  • 2 WIL (Work Integrated Learning) subjects

Subjects focus on core business skills with the addition of specialised hospitality management subjects. In your specialisation subjects you will be exposed to the inner workings of the hospitality sector and develop skills in areas such as rooms division, gastronomy, and food and beverage.

Hospitality management and business subjects are supplemented by elective subjects from a range of business areas. Your choices include electives in marketing, international tourism, entrepreneurship and innovation, event management and sports management. This allows you to enhance your hospitality management degree with subjects that reflect your interests and ambitions.

At ICMS we believe that the best learning experience combines practical and real world experience with a strong academic foundation. Our Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program is built into your degree and will prepare you for future success in the business world.

The ICMS Bachelor of Hospitality Management features one of the most comprehensive practical training programs in Australia. This is next -generation education that gets you in the workforce before you’ve even graduated. You’ll graduate with a strong understanding of business and hospitality principles, industry training and countless hands-on experiences. You’ll have all the skills you need to succeed in hospitality management.

As part of WIL, you’ll complete a Professional Placement Preparation Program, then two trimesters of professional placement.

When it is time to embark on your professional placement, we work closely with them to find a suitable placement that is the best fit for your skills, interests and professional goals.

As part of your Bachelor of Hospitality Management journey, your professional placement could take you to a major city, regional area or regional area in Australia. You could even take up a position in an international city. It is all part of finding the best placement for you.

Not only is this an invaluable experience, it is also a chance to grow your professional network. For many of our graduates this experience introduces them to their future employers.

In your final year, you will have the opportunity to participate in the Capstone subject which will test your abilities in addressing contemporary issues or problems in the career or industry you’re working toward.

Upon successful completion of the ICMS Bachelor of Hospitality Management you will able to:

  • Apply broad theoretical and practical knowledge in hospitality management to real-world challenges, demonstrating deep understanding within the service-driven contexts. 
  • Conduct research and critically evaluate data to inform and justify decision-making in diverse hospitality contexts. 
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex and unpredictable challenges in hospitality management, using critical analysis and creative problem-solving techniques. 
  • Evaluate ethical, legal, sustainability, social responsibility, and governance issues within the hospitality industry, considering their implications on local and global service practices. 
  • Formulate strategies to address complex hospitality management challenges, applying innovation, digital tools, and emerging technologies in diverse hospitality contexts. 
  • Communicate and negotiate effectively with diverse stakeholders in the hospitality industry, using appropriate communication methods and professional standards to suit different hospitality contexts. 
  • Apply teamwork and collaboration skills, management principles and motivational strategies to lead and participate in diverse teams across a range of hospitality contexts. 
  • Reflect on and evaluate personal performance to cultivate a professional identity, embracing values, career aspirations, and exercising professional judgement within the hospitality industry.

Please note: Core subjects from undergraduate business courses are available at both the Northern Beaches Campus and the City Campus. These core subjects may also be part of other undergraduate courses. If a subject is not available at your preferred campus during a particular trimester, it will be offered either online or at the other campus.

International students and online study: In accordance with the Australian Government ESOS National Code, international students on a Student Visa can only undertake 33% of their total enrolment load online. They must be enrolled in at least one on-campus subject in each compulsory study period. Learn more.
